In honor of the lovely Labor Day holiday, I thought I'd lay off the usual house talk for a brief moment because for us, long holiday weekends are all about relaxing and spending time with friends and family. Translation: no laboring for us.
That said, last weekend we put down the tools and paint brushes and squeaked in a really fun family outing. We hit up Green Meadows Petting Farm which I highly recommend for anyone with little ones. Here’s a little ditty about how and why we made the 40 minute trip to explore the farm.
Like many young toddlers, Sebastian has always loved the song Old MacDonald’s Farm. We’ve been singing it to (and with) him for what seems like ages now. So much so that it’s even morphed into spin-off versions titled Old MacMommy’s Farm and Old MacDaddy’s Farm. And naturally, Mommy’s farm doesn’t have pigs, cows, etc. The mommy version involves high heels, purses, etc. Gotta keep it real, folks. He smiles like crazy and sings along to our silly versions.
One day out of the blue, Sebastian asked if we'd ever visit Old MacDonald’s Farm. (Coincidentally, just days earlier I had purchased tickets to Green Meadows.) Why yes...yes, we could, Sebastian!
But as Murphy’s Law would have it, our first scheduled date to go ended up a big fail. The day previous it had massively stormed which meant the grounds at the farm would be one big muddy mess. Reschedule.
So we set up an alternate date. Only to remember a few days prior that Sebastian had a school field trip to the Milwaukee County Zoo. Granted, a zoo is different from a petting farm, but there’s too many similarities in my opinion and I felt the thrill would be lost if the two events were so close together (literally two days apart). Reschedule.
Finally, a few weeks later with the zoo visit far enough in the past and the weather cooperating (well, sorta…it was a scorching 90 degrees out!) we piled into the truck and headed out. And because we know how kids roll, we made sure not to tell the boys where we were headed until we were already in the car driving. It avoided a LOT of the “Are we leaving now?” questions that otherwise come about every two minutes.
All and all, it was a great time. Here are a few pictures from our day:
